Cutle Strategy: Find the Halfway Line

Try the area-balancing examples

For this triangle, a line from the top vertex to the midpoint of the base is a median. It makes two equal-area triangles, even though other halfway lines also exist.

Rectangles: use the center

Any line through the center of a rectangle divides it into equal areas. Locate the midpoint between opposite corners, then draw your line through it. Rotation changes how a rectangle looks, but not this symmetry.

Triangles: find a median

A line from a vertex to the midpoint of the opposite side splits a triangle into equal areas. For a triangle with vertices (0,0), (10,0), and (5,10), the vertical line x = 5 produces exactly 50:50.

Convex polygons: use feedback to refine the offset

Start with a line through the visual center. If one side has 60% of the area, shift the line toward the larger piece while keeping the angle fixed. Compare the next percentages before changing direction again. The widest part of a shape has more area than a narrow tip.
